Why Adam Devine Is Convinced Wife Chloe Bridges Likes Him More Now That He's a Dad
Adam Devine had no doubt Chloe Bridges was end game for him when they fell in love making The Final Girls almost a decade ago.
As for Bridges, now that they share 7-month-old son Beau, "I think she likes me more," Devine quipped to E! News in an exclusive interview. "For awhile, for several years, I would catch her just sort of staring at me from across the living room and I'm like, 'She thinks she blew it. She thinks she chose way wrong.'"
But, he added, "I think since she saw me as a dad, she's like, 'Whew, OK.'"
The Pitch Perfect star can't help but be in bow-to-the-queen mode since the birth of their child on Feb. 16.
"I'm so proud of her," Devine said of his wife of almost three years. "I'm in the middle of shooting Righteous Gemstones, so I'm working 12-, 14-hour days. She's taking the brunt of the parenting responsibility right now and she's really killing it."
And when the shooting schedule gets rough, that means time spent with the loves of his life is all the more precious.
While Bridges always made the trip with him to set in Charleston, S.C., in past years, this summer marked their first as a family of three, Beau proving to be quite the stoic traveler starting at just 2 months old.
"He's been on a couple planes already, he's been on many boats," Devine shared. "You see all the side-eyes from the other passengers next to you, like, 'Cute baby, but is it going to scream-vomit all over our section?' And he did so well."
He cracked, "I know most people say they have a great child, but you don't! I do. I've got the No. 1 kid. He came out of my wife!"
Though the biggest surprise for him has actually been just how "damn easy and fun" fatherhood is, especially after being warned otherwise.
"By the way, it's not that easy," he quickly added. But he has found that what the world tends to not tell you about parenthood is that it might end up being kind of a blast.
"I feel like people try to scare you so much at the beginning," Devine explained, "where they're like, 'Oooh, your life's about to change, everything that you enjoy you're never going to do ever again.'"
Rather, he said, "I'm kind of excited because now I can use him to get out of things. No matter where you're at, 'Oh, I gotta go, I can't, 'cause the baby.' And then he'll look over [innocently widening his eyes] with his two teeth, and everyone's like, 'Whatever you got to do! Precious child, take care of him!'"
But at heart, the 40-year-old was simply ready to trade in whatever it was that he was supposedly giving up in favor of Fisher-Price Kick & Play Piano jam sessions, getting excited to screen his animated movies for his son ("'Why does that saber-toothed tiger sound like my father?'") and settling into his dad joke era.
For instance, should the Nebraska native and his wife go as farmers for Halloween and dress Beau up like an ear of corn, there's "a lot of really cute 'Children of the Corn' options," Devine mused. Though if they put him in a tiny wizard costume, he added, "You can make the joke like, 'How old is he?' 'A thousand years old.' I'd say that a lot."
But while spooky season is going to be off the hook in the Devine-Bridges household, tax season had the potential to get more complicated.
So in the spirit of finding out that some things aren't as terrifying as they seem, Devine was a natural fit for Intuit TurboTax's Beat Your Price campaign.
Plus, now that he's got a new dependent to account for, he appreciates that the service offers ready assistance from tax pros while you're filing online.
"I said, 'This is going to make taxes more confusing, honey, are you sure we should do this?'" Devine recalled of the fateful decision to grow their household. "We said it was worth it."
And not only is Bridges now fairly certain that she didn't blow it when she vowed to joint-file for life with Devine in October 2021, they've been having the best time—especially once they realized they needed to put their son on a sleep schedule.
"He's sleeping through the night," Devine shared. But at first, "we didn't even realize that he needs to go to bed around the same time. We had no clue, for months. We were just like, 'Yeah, when they fall asleep, they fall asleep!' We finally figured that out and it's been kind of smooth sailing since then."
But figuring all of it out with Bridges has been "awesome," Devine said. "The amount of respect we have for each other is through the roof. And just seeing her as a mom is pretty incredible."
Now that they've begun this exciting new chapter, brush up on how Devine and Bridges' love story began:
