More than 85,000 high chairs are being recalled across North America after nearly a dozen children suffered injuries falling out of them, federal product regulators said Thursday.

Imported by TOMY International of Oak Brook, Illinois, the recall involves 83,000 Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs sold in the U.S. and 2,850 sold in Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission posted online.

Safety hazard

The high chairs are a safety hazard, the safety commission said in the release.

According to the agency, TOMY has received 34 reports of the chair separating from the base, including 24 falls resulting in 11 injuries such as bruising and scratches.

"The bolts used to secure the seat of the recalled highchair to the pedestal base can become loose and allow the seat to detach, posing a fall hazard," the safety commission said.
