Why Emma Stone Applies to Be a Jeopardy! Contestant Every Year

What is—Emma Stone's greatest aspiration at the moment? 

The Poor Things star recently divulged the gig that she works toward every night, but still hasn't been cast in. The Oscar winner would just really love to be a contestant on the iconic trivia show Jeopardy!

"I apply every June," the La La Land actress said on the Jan. 11 episode of Variety's Award Circuit Podcast. "I don't want to go on Celebrity Jeopardy! I want to earn my stripes."

And Emma even emphasized just how hard she's been working toward her Jeopardy! goal, spewing out the application process and her preparation techniques. 

"You can only take the test once a year with your email address, and I've never gotten on the show," she added. "I watch it every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on Jeopardy!"

Although Emma hasn't yet cracked that wager, she's taking award season for $1000, as the star has already brought home a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in A Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy for her Poor Things performance.

"Playing Bella was unbelievable," she noted of her character in her acceptance speech on Jan. 7. "Bella falls in love with life itself, rather than a person, and she accepts the good, the bad in equal measure. That really made me look at life differently—and that all of it counts, and all of it is important."

The 35-year-old also received another Golden Globes nod for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series-Drama for The Curse (the credit ultimately went to Sarah Snook for her Succession performance) and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Poor Things.

And it still is. This nomination means the very world to me to be amplified by my peers for my work as Bayard Rustin in Rustin directed with such grace and intelligence by the great George C. Wolfe. No one does this alone. I am so grateful to Rustin’s tremendous cast, generous crew and the best producing team a guy could ask for."

“I’m so proud to be a member of this guild, and to be acknowledged alongside these incredible actors whose work I’ve admired for so long," the Maestro star said in a statement about his Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role nomination. "For SAG to recognize Carey Mulligan and I means everything to us. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this community.”

Someone alert the Diamond Dogs because the Ted Lasso alum has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. And he reacted in true Roy Kent fashion. 

"Holy xxxx!" Brett wrote on his Instagram Stories. "Thank you so much @sagawards."

He also cheered for the rest of the Ted Lasso team by adding, "Let's go Greyhounds."

Yes, chef! Following her nod for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, The Bear star wrote on Instagram, "Thank you @sagawards."

“Telling the story of Felicia’s life has been an incredible privilege," the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role nominee said in a statement about her role in Maestro. After the actress and her costar Alex Borstein were both nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series category, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star marked the major moment with a tribute on Instagram.

After being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, The Color Purple star wrote on Instagram Stories, "And then this happened!!"

"Mary Lamb is the kind of character you don’t see often – her strength and capacity for compassion inspire me," the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role nominee said about her role in The Holdovers.
