2025 Grammy nominations live updates: Beyoncé leads the way

2024-12-19 10:53:33 Stocks

The road to Grammys glory starts today, as nominations for the 67th annual music awards are revealed.

The Recording Academy announced contenders across a staggering 94 categories, by far the most of any major award show.

With her leading 11 nominations, Beyoncé now has 99 total career nods, making her the most nominated artist in Grammy history (she previously shared the record with husband Jay-Z with 88). Her 32 wins also make her the most awarded artist in Grammy history.

And in the music industry, it's another good year for women. Yes, it's true, women dominate the record and album of the year categories, as well as best pop solo performance, best pop vocal album, best R&B performance, best R&B song, best Americana performance, best folk album and best Latin pop album.

With so much news coming out of the nominee list, follow along as music expert Melissa Ruggieri and USA TODAY’s Entertainment team breaks down what's ahead for Music’s Biggest Night. Then mark your calendars for Feb. 2, when the nominees find out who takes home a gilded Grammys gramophone.

Grammy 2025 snubs:Who didn't get nominated that should have?

Album of the year

André 3000, "New Blue Sun"

Beyoncé, "Cowboy Carter"

Billie Eilish, "Hit Me Hard and Soft"

Chappell Roan, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess"

Charli XCX, "Brat"

Jacob Collier, "Djesse Vol. 4"

Sabrina Carpenter, "Short n’ Sweet"

Did you know? With her album of the year nod for "The Tortured Poets Department," Taylor Swift is the first woman to land seven nominations in the category. It's also her fourth consecutive album to earn the honor.

Record of the year

The Beatles, "Now and Then"

Beyoncé, "Texas Hold ’Em"

Billie Eilish, "Birds of a Feather"

Chappell Roan, "Good Luck, Babe!"

Charli XCX, "360"

Kendrick Lamar, "Not Like Us"

Sabrina Carpenter, "Espresso"

Taylor Swift Featuring Post Malone, "Fortnight"

Did you know? The Beatles’ “Now and Then” is an example of how AI fits into Grammy nominations. The technology was used as a production tool, not as a replacement for human creativity, which is the Grammy standard for allowing AI use. The song comes from old tapes and recording sessions of the band while all of the members were alive.

Producer Giles Martin broke the song down with USA TODAY last year, saying "Paul truly loved John and without question they missed each other. There were only four Beatles and like trauma, they were the only ones who could understand because they're the only ones who experienced it. I think that’s why Paul wanted to finish 'Now and Then.' It was seen as the final collaboration of the four of them."

Song of the year

Beyoncé, “Texas Hold ’Em”

Billie Eilish, "Birds Of A Feather”

Chappell Roan, “Good Luck, Babe!”

Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us”

Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile”

Did you know? It might feel like Sabrina Carpenter is a new artist because of her breakout this year, but "Short n' Sweet" is her sixth album. And these are her first Grammy nominations.

Two artist nabbed nominations in The Big Four categories

Innovative Midwest Princess Chappell Roan and steamy “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter were named in all four of the Grammy’s biggest categories: album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist. They each earned a total of six nominations.

Best rock album

You know it’s going to be a diverse year when The Rolling Stones and Fontaines DC are in the same category.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams announced the category, which her band won last year with “This is Why.”

The 2025 acts up for the award are:

“Happiness Bastards” The Black Crowes

“Romance” Fontaines D.C.

“Saviors” Green Day

“Tangk” IDLES

“Dark Matter” Pearl Jam

“Hackney Diamonds” The Rolling Stones

“No Name” Jack White

Did you know? The Rolling Stones have 14 career Grammy nominations and three wins – not including their 1987 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. If "Hackney Diamonds" wins, it will be their first in a rock category since 1995, when "Voodoo Lounge" nabbed the honor. The band did win in 2018 for best traditional blues album with "Blue & Lonesome."

Country solo performance and country album

Whoa! Beyoncé stakes her claim in country categories alongside another pop star, Post Malone. Genres? What genres?

Beyoncé, "16 Carriages"

Chris Stapleton, "It Takes a Woman"

Jelly Roll, "I Am Not Okay"

Kacey Musgraves, "The Architect"

Shaboozey, "A Bar Song (Tipsy)"

“Here We Go (Uh Oh)” Coco Jones

“Made For Me (Live On BET)” Muni Long

“Saturn” SZA

Did you know? SZA, who was the most-nominated artist at the 2024 awards, is up for two categories this year including best R&B performance. The cherry on top of her Grammys news? Today is her 35th birthday!

Best song written for visual media

“Love Will Survive” from "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" Barbra Streisand. Written by Walter Afanasieff, Charlie Midnight, Kara Talve & Hans Zimmer

Did you know? The last time NSYNC was nominated for a Grammy was 2003, when "Girlfriend" lost in best pop performance by a duo or group. Cool to see them up for their "Trolls" song, but when did it become Justin Timberlake and NSYNC?

Best musical theater album

Daniel Radcliff at the Grammys? The “Harry Potter” actor starred in “Merrily We Roll Along” on Broadway alongside Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez. It was nominated in the best musical theater album category.

When the lauded show closed this summer, Radcliff told USA TODAY “I couldn’t have wished for anything more” about his turn in the Stephen Sondheim revival.

Also nominated are:

“Hell’s Kitchen”

“The Notebook”

“The Outsiders”

“Suffs”

“The Wiz”

Did you know? Alicia Keys already has a shelf full of Grammys - 16 - but her nomination for "Hell's Kitchen," the musical inspired by her life, is her first in the best musical theater album category.

Best pop duo/group performance

“Us.” Gracie Abrams featuring Taylor Swift

“Levii’s Jeans” Beyoncé featuring Post Malone

“Guess” Charli xcx and Billie Eilish

“the boy is mine” Ariana Grande, Brandy and Monica

Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II (“Die With A Smile” Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars)

Ian Fitchuk (“AMEN” Beyoncé)

Mustard (“Not Like Us” Kendrick Lamar)

Daniel Nigro (“Good Luck, Babe!” Chappell Roan)

Did you know? Jack Antonoff, frequent Taylor Swift collaborator, won this the past three years. Had he been nominated and won in 2025, he would have been the first person to do it four times in a row. But it appears Grammy voters wanted a different name this round.

Songwriter of the year

The five nominees in the songwriter of the year, non-classical category are behind some of the year’s biggest hits.

They are:

Jessi Alexander (“Remember Him That Way” Luke Combs)

Amy Allen (“Espresso” Sabrina Carpenter)

Edgar Barrera (“Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” Karol G)

Jessie Jo Dillon (“Sorry Mom” Kelsea Ballerini)

RAYE (“RIIVERDANCE” Beyoncé)

Did you know? Amy Allen definitely has an ear for pop songs. She’s worked with Harry Styles a couple of times and was part of his album of the year win in 2023 for “Harry’s House” for co-writing “Matilda.”

Did you know? This is also Raye’s first Grammy nomination. Last year, when her 2023 album “My 21st Century Blues” was overlooked, she said she wasn’t upset at all because she’s “barely scratched the surface” of her career. And here we are.

How do I watch the Grammys?

This year’s awards show will take place Feb. 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and air live on CBS and Paramount+.

How many people vote for the Grammys?

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. talked with USA TODAY last night and noted several times that he is "so proud" of the job that the 13,000 voting members did this year with the nominees. They are voted on by members of the Recording Academy, which includes songwriters, composers, musicians, producers, engineers and more. The trend he sees is "excellence, regardless of genre."

What is the Grammy eligibility period for the 2025 awards?

We’re so glad you asked. Only work released between Sept. 16, 2023 and Aug. 30, 2024 can be submitted.

The Recording Academy received a staggering 20,000 entries across 94 categories.
