April 20 has become a day celebrated by cannabis converts the world over. This year, the date known as 4/20 falls on Saturday.
The unofficial holiday involves a celebration of pot in its various forms, including a growing category of edibles and drinks infused with THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol), two chemicals found in the marijuana and hemp plants.
Nearly half of the states in the U.S. have legalized marijuana. And changes in the federal 2018 Farm Bill, which allowed for the sale of hemp, has resulted in a growing category of drinks and edibles with THC and CBD derived from hemp.
The celebration has grown larger every year but don't worry. USA TODAY has found out about all the special deals and events you'll want to hit up this 4/20. From Cheech and Chong invasion of the Call of Duty video game and Snoop Dogg selling his own THC and CBD cocktails, to food deals at places like Popeye's and Smashburger, here's how to make your 4/20 memorable this year.
Delta-8 THC. Is it safe?:As it flies off shelves, thousands call poison control over bad experiences
The date is perfect timing for Snoop Dogg, Death Row Records & Hill Beverage Company to announce the availability of its Do It Fluid THC and CBD beverages at more than 260 Total Wine & More stores across the U.S.
Spec’s Wine, Spirits and Foods in Texas will also offer the products.
Launched in December 2023, Do It Fluid drinks are also available for delivery nationwide via DoorDash starting Saturday. Flavors include: Blood Orange, Blue Razz, Cherry Limeade and Peaches N' Honies – each available in CBD-only versions ($4.99 per can) and versions with CBD and hemp-derived Delta-9 THC ($5.99 per can). You can also order the drinks on the Hill Beverage website, newly redesigned by Philadelphia-based creative agency MOD.
"Honestly, I never thought I would see the day THC-infused drinks are actually in big box retailers right next to 19 Crimes and Gin & Juice," said Snoop Dogg in a statement to USA TODAY. "Is prohibition over yet?”
The rapper has previously partnered with 19 Crimes wines and recently launched, along with longtime collaborator Dr. Dre, new Gin & Juice ready-to-drink cocktails.
"Having Do It Fluid drinks on the shelf at Total Wine and other retailers "creates a new level of comfort for our customers and even our competitor’s customers, as we all dive into this space together," Jake Hill, who co-founded Hill Beverage with Snoop Dogg, said in a statement to USA TODAY. "This is the start of the evolution from prohibition to legalized cannabis, what a time we live in.”
Cannabis-infused beverage company Cann, which hit the market back in 1999 and is backed by celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosario Dawson, and Rebel Wilson, has some 4/20-timed discounts for its "social tonics."
Flavors include Ginger Lemongrass, Grapefruit Rosemary, Blood Orange Cardamom and Lemon Lavender. You can get up to 30% off and a free 8-ounce six-pack when you order by Sunday, April 21.
Cann on Instagram: "new blog, who dis? tbh we had a bit too much to say, and figured we'd just cannsplain it to you. link in bio"
Another THC product is sweedies mood rings, which deliver a low dose of hemp-infused THC for an advertised "gentle mood-boosting, giggly effect in 15 minutes." Each pouch of mood rings has a serving of 10 gummies, collectively for 5 milligrams each of THC and CBD. Available in two-packs of pouches ($21) or a six-pack ($54), but for the rest of the month get 15% off using the code TODAY15.
If you're game for some action in the hugely popular Call of Duty video game, comedic stoners Cheech and Chong are available now as playable characters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.
To play as Cheech and Chong, you can buy the bundle for 3,000 Call of Duty Points, which allows you to play as both across all three titles. By the way, within that, there's also a new Snoop Dogg playable skin.
Hunger pangs historically accompany pot intake. So many eateries and brands cater to 4/20 celebrants with specials – you can take advantage of them whether you partake or pass. Already, Jimmy John's is pushing its Deliciously Dope Dime Bag, which for some buyers will include a rolling tray.
Here's some. Remember to check social media for deals promoted by local businesses, too.
