A winter storm hit portions of Wisconsin Tuesday, leaving tens of thousands of people without power.
According to the USA TODAY power outage tracker, there are over 80,000 customers without power across the state as of 7:11 a.m. ET Wednesday.
As of 9:45 p.m. ET Tuesday, the National Weather Service had reported snow totals of 7.4 inches in Omro, 6.3 inches in Hortonville and 6 inches in Waushara County, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network. The NWS also issued a flood warning until early Saturday afternoon for areas along the Fox River from Waukesha to New Munster.
"We're expecting snow to continue off and on through the night and we may see some higher snowfall rates picking up after midnight, more so further west towards Madison, Wisconsin Dells, up towards Fond du Lac area," Kevin Wagner, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Tuesday night.
Wagner also said the Milwaukee area, Racine and Kenosha will mostly see a wintry mix of rain and snow due to the warmer air. Wagner estimated that communities to the west, including Waukesha County, could see an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow fall overnight.
"We're looking at those heavier rains or heavier snowfall to kind of stay towards the Green Bay area, but sneak into Fond du Lac, to Madison, to the Dells area," Wagner told the Journal Sentinel.
The National Weather Service's Milwaukee office said on social media Wednesday morning that light snowfall will continue through the evening, but "any additional accumulations beyond noon will be minor."
According to the USA TODAY power outage tracker, a majority of the outages in Wisconsin are in the northeast portion of the state.
Door County, Marinette County and Outagamie County each have over 12,000 reported outages, while Oconto County has over 11,000 reported outages.
Severe weather has also impacted West Virginia's power grid, with over 105,000 reported outages across the state as of 7:11 a.m. ET Wednesday.
