Barbenheimer still rules.
After conquering the summer box office, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" are now taking the Screen Actors Guild Awards by storm. And fittingly, they tied, with a leading four nominations each.
After nabbing the Globe for top drama, Christopher Nolan's atomic bomb biopic "Oppenheimer" scored honors for outstanding cast in a motion picture – the SAG equivalent of best picture – as well as best male actor (Cillian Murphy), supporting male actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and supporting female actor (Emily Blunt) at the 30th SAG Awards, streaming live on Netflix Feb. 24 (8 p.m. EST/5 PST). Greta Gerwig's pop-culture phenomenon "Barbie" also is up for best cast, plus best female actor (Margot Robbie), supporting male actor (Ryan Gosling) and stunt ensemble.
SAG nominations were announced Wednesday morning by Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani on Instagram Live. The show is an important bellwether for the upcoming Oscars on March 10, given that actors comprise the largest voting body in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Aside from Barbenheimer, other contenders for the night's top movie prize are "Killers of the Flower Moon," "The Color Purple" and "American Fiction." "Fiction" and "Killers" each scored three nominations total, while "Poor Things," which won best comedy at the Globes, nabbed two nods but was shut out of the best ensemble category.
In the TV categories, "Succession" had the most nominations overall with five, with "The Bear," "The Last of Us" and "Ted Lasso" just behind with four apiece.
Murphy is part of a stacked contingent for best male actor alongside fellow Globe winner Paul Giamatti ("The Holdovers"), Bradley Cooper ("Maestro"), Colman Domingo ("Rustin") and Jeffrey Wright ("American Fiction").
Another pair of Globe honorees, Emma Stone ("Poor Things") and Lily Gladstone ("Killers of the Flower Moon"), lead the slate for best female actor, which also includes Robbie, Carey Mulligan ("Maestro") and Annette Bening ("Nyad").
Downey conquered the supporting male actor category at the Globes and anchors the SAG lineup alongside Gosling, Willem Dafoe ("Poor Things"), Sterling K. Brown ("American Fiction") and Robert De Niro ("Killers of the Flower Moon").
And if "The Holdovers" standout (and Globe winner) Da'Vine Joy Randolph is going to run the table to the Oscars, she'll first need to best the rest in the supporting female actor field: Blunt, Danielle Brooks ("The Color Purple"), Jodie Foster ("Nyad") and Penelope Cruz ("Ferrari").
